Monday, December 4th, 2017 Dear Parents/Guardians, As the weather begins to change and become colder I wanted to let you know that the students, whenever possible will be going outside for recess in the yard. I believe that vigorous play is essential for our youth. Please assist us with making sure that our students have the appropriate outside clothing so that all may participate in our recess times. The decision to play outside will be made on a day-to-day basis. Below are the guidelines sent out by the N.Y.C.D.O.E regarding this issue: Guidelines for Outdoor Play in Cold Weather: Some schools continue to keep children inside when the temperature is below 32 degrees. This is not consistent with current Health Department recommendations or current DOE policy. Children benefit from vigorous exercise and should be given the opportunity to play outside whenever possible. Unless it is snowing or there is ice on the playground, low temperatures should not be a barrier to outside play as long as children are appropriately dressed. The Health Department strongly encourages principals to maintain outdoor play periods on the vast majority of winter days. As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. Sincerely, Gregory Filippi, Principal |
